About the Work
Sonia Boyce OBE RA is a British Afro-Caribbean artist who lives and works in London. Boyce's work involves a variety of media, such as drawing, print, photography, video, and sound. Her art explores "the relationship between sound and memory, the dynamics of space, and incorporating the spectator”. At the heart of Boyce’s work is an exploration of gestures and events, with an underlying focus on the personal and political subjectivities behind them. In this print, a racist exclamation dissolves gradually leaving just a trace, reflecting the fleeting nature of such encounters and the impunity of the perpetrator.
