About the work
"I often employ the cylinder shape as a blank space for my 'painted drawings' - it's a very versatile form, in its simplicity it has countless possible functions or can also just be for contemplation. I have used the motif of 'staring young men' before; I adopted a process of colouring the figures that to my eyes is a bit 'Warholian' in the layering and the use of line drawing. In this group I played with the same colour combinations on each form."

About the work
"Worn by powwow dancers (grass dancers, old style jingle dancers, old style fancy dancers), land defenders and water protectors across Turtle Island (North America), kohkom scarves are garments that signify a commitment to Indigenous knowledges embodied by our grandmothers. I return to this textile in my practice as it reminds me of our collective work towards repair, restoration and resistance". - Tanya Lukin Linklater
