This edition has been produced on the occasion of Jesse Darling's exhibition Enclosures at Camden Art Centre, 2022.

About the work
The Ballad of Accounting is one of a new body of etchings produced during their Fellowship.  The work sees reoccurring imagery used by Darling throughout their exhibition Enclosures of hands and tools which speak to scripts of labour, both gendered and manual, identity, coalition building and collectivity. The asemic writing alludes to systems of counting and accounting - death tolls that accrete; the marks of a society surveyed, policed and privatised and systems and people on the brink of exhaustion and collapse.

About the artist
Jesse Darling is a Berlin based artist who works across many different media. Their work draws on the falliability, fungibility, adaptability and vulnerability of living beings, society and technologies.
Darling was the fourth recipient of the Camden Art Centre Freelands Lomax Fellowship, a residency which supported artists working with Clay.
