About the Work
"Happy Alien is a nostalgic reference to the aliens I had in my show with Jenni Lomax in 2000. I produced some life-sized aliens as well as some miniature multiples which were then sold at the shop in Camden Arts Centre to raise money. As Jenni Lomax is leaving I thought it would be nice to go down memory lane with this edition." - Yinka Shonibare

About the Artist
Yinka Shonibare had an exhibition at Camden Arts Centre in 2000, was a speaker at Camden Arts Centre's 50th Anniversary Lecture Series in 2016 and had work in Making & Unmaking in 2016. Yinka Shonibare RA (b.1962) studied at the Byam Shaw School of Art and Goldsmiths’ College. Shonibare’s West African heritage has been at the heart of his work since he started exhibiting in 1988, when he began using ‘Dutch-wax’ dyed fabrics, commonly found in Western Africa, both for wall-mounted works (as pseudo paintings) and for sculpted figures. He was a Turner prize nominee in 2004 and awarded the decoration of Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.
